History

The Preston Photographic Club Inc is the third oldest photographic club in the State of Victoria following the Melbourne Camera Club and the Ballarat Camera Club.

In 1948, nine people attended the first meeting of the photographic club in a private home.

A second meeting was held on the 14th September and the decision was made to form the Pictorial Photographic Club.

Mr Stan Long was the first president.

In 1951, the club was renamed the Preston Photographic Club.

The first regular meetings were held at the Scout Hall, Town Hall Avenue, Preston, and then moved to the Rechabite Hall in High Street, Preston in the mid-1950s.

In the late 1970s, the Club moved to the Reservoir Yacht Club.

In the early 1980s, the Club moved again to Preston Library Annexe, Gower Street, Preston.

In 2021 the club relocated to the Kingsbury Bowls Club.

New innovations and advances in photography have seen the club grow and evolve into a recreational hobby which includes the ability to learn along the way.

Photography can be enjoyed by people of all ages and backgrounds, no matter the skill level.
