SUMMARY:October Competition - Negative Space Entries Due
DESCRIPTION:What is Negative Space Photography?\n\nNegative space photog
raphy focuses on the space around and between the main subject rather th
an the subject itself. This empty or uncluttered space — called negati
ve space — helps to draw attention to the main subject\, creating a se
nse of balance\, simplicity\, and visual impact.\n\nThe use of negative
space can evoke emotion\, convey isolation or calmness\, and guide the v
iewer’s eye directly to the subject. It’s a powerful compositional t
ool that often relies on minimalism\, strong shapes\, and thoughtful pla
cement within the frame.\n\nProject Brief:\n\nYour task for this competi
tion is to create an image that makes effective use of negative space. T
he photograph should clearly show a main subject with surrounding empty
or minimal space that enhances the composition and mood.\n\nYou may choo
 se any subject - people\, nature\, architecture\, or objects - but the s
uccess of your image will depend on how you use space\, balance\, and si
mplicity to communicate your idea.\n\nTips\n\n Choose a simple subject
that stands out clearly from its background.\n Look for clean or open s
 paces — sky\, walls\, water\, or simple landscapes.\n Frame your subj
ect off-centre to create visual balance using the rule of thirds.\n Pay
attention to colour\, tone\, and contrast to separate the subject from
the background.\n Use lighting to highlight your subject and maintain a
sense of space.\n Edit minimally — keep the image uncluttered and tr
ue to the minimalist style.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n[caption id="attachment_1227"
